Were the Ancient Egyptians Black?

Host Chuck Penn on the set with Molefi K. Asante, Ph.D.
One of the most popular and talked about segments to air during the HARAMBE series, this segment featured Molefi Kete Asante, Ph.D. of Temple University. Contrary to what you may have seen in The Ten Commandments and other Hollywood movie depictions of ancient Egypt, which usually begin with Cleopatra, Mark Anthony and the Greeks, or present day visual presentations on The History Channel, Discovery, and the like, the ancient Egyptians were black people. In fact, as Dr. Asante points out, "the further back you go in antiquity, the blacker the people are." Dr. Asante makes a compelling case for the blackness of ancient Egypt, citing categories of evidence, including the eyewitness accounts of the Greeks themselves, such as Herodotus, Aristotle, and others. Asante boldly articulates Egypt’s many contributions to science, medicine, architecture, mathematics and religion. Molefi K. Asante remains today one of the world’s most gifted scholars -- a prolific author and an unabashed proponent of Afrocentricity and the reclamation of African peoples.
