Were the Ancient Egyptians Black?1st ethnology

“Those who are too black are cowards, like for instance, the Egyptians and Ethiopians. But those who are excessively white are also cowards as we can see from the example of women, the complexion of courage is between the two.”
Aristotle, Physiognomy
, 6.
In other words, the ancient Egyptians were true Negroes of the same type as all native-born Africans. ... Just think that this race of Black men, today our slave and the object of our scorn, is the very race to which we owe our arts, sciences, and even the use of speech! Just imagine, finally, that it is in the midst of people (i.e., Americans) who call themselves the greatest friends of liberty and humanity that one has approved the most barbarous slavery, and questioned whether Black men have the same kind of intelligence as whites!" Count Constantin de Volney (1757—1820),

Host Chuck Penn on the set with Molefi K. Asante, Ph.D.

One of the most popular and talked about segments to air during the HARAMBE series, this segment featured Molefi Kete Asante, Ph.D. of Temple University.

Contrary to what you may have seen in The Ten Commandments and other Hollywood movie depictions of ancient Egypt, which usually begin with Cleopatra, Mark Anthony and the Greeks, or present day visual presentations on The History Channel, Discovery, and the like, the ancient Egyptians were black people.

In fact, as Dr. Asante points out, "the further back you go in antiquity, the blacker the people are."

Dr. Asante makes a compelling case for the blackness of ancient Egypt, citing categories of evidence, including the eyewitness accounts of the Greeks themselves, such as Herodotus, Aristotle, and others. Asante boldly articulates Egypt’s many contributions to science, medicine, architecture, mathematics and religion. Molefi K. Asante remains today one of the world’s most gifted scholars -- a prolific author and an unabashed proponent of Afrocentricity and the reclamation of African peoples.
